Internship Program Overview

The Student Internship Program at Open Hearts Counseling LLC offers graduate-level counseling students the opportunity to gain direct clinical experience in a supportive, trauma-informed, and client-centered private practice. Our goal is to nurture the next generation of ethical, confident, and compassionate clinicians through hands-on training, individualized supervision, and professional development.

Program Objectives

  • Provide hands-on clinical training aligned with CACREP and university standards.

  • Support the development of professional identity and ethical decision-making.

  • Strengthen diagnostic, documentation, and therapeutic competencies.

  • Encourage self-awareness and integration of personal therapeutic style.

  • Offer practical insight into private practice operations.

Supervision & Support                 Intern Responsibilities     

 

  • Weekly Individual Supervision with a fully licensed supervisor.

  • Optional group/peer supervision sessions or trainings.

  • Real-time case consultation and ongoing feedback.

  • Access to documentation templates and clinical resources.

  • Optional exposure to back-end operations of private practice (great for future practice owners!).


 

  • Conduct intakes and provide individual therapy (with supervision and support).

  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation using our EMR.

  • Participate in supervision, case consultation, and optional team meetings.

  • Engage in ongoing ethical, cultural, and trauma-informed reflection.

  • Maintain confidentiality and abide by ACA Code of Ethics and HIPAA standards.
